I just picked up a Deathadder earlier this week, and it has worked flawlessly for TF2, QuakeET, and GW.

I just grabbed a Logitech G9 for my 2nd PC. It's a fantastic mouse as far as the optical sensor, ergo-shape, and buttons are concerned. However, the adjustable grip "shells" are a bit weird since they attach slightly loose when fitted over the G9's hardware. I had to put rolled tape on its interior side to remove the slack. I plan on buying some rubber-feet at my local Fry's Electronics for a more permanent solution.
EDIT: Just installed some felt pads from the hardware store, and it worked like a charm to remove the grip shell slack. Now the G9 feels much more solid

Just bought a Razer Deathadder today, after using a Logitech MX310 for many years. The MX310 was a heck of a reliable and comfortable mouse, but I just wanted to try something difference - like slurging on a fancy mouse. I mainly play Call of Duty 4 and CS (HL1), and I can definitely tell there is a difference in sensitivity to my movements with the new Deathadder. Smooth, and precise. I really like the placement of the 2 extra buttons near the thumb too. Gotta have at least one there, for the ol' knife in both COD4 and CS. - they managed to place two of them there though, without an issue of accidental pressing, while still being comfortable to reach.

All you need to know is do NOT buy a mouse with a smooth scroll (as opposed to bumpy) Because bumpy scrolls help in first person shooters, with switching weapons.

You mean digital ( increments ) vs analog ( wheel can be w/e position )?

The G9 (and other logitech mice using its scroll wheel design) can adjust between smooth vs. indexed scroll wheel movement... just press a button under the mouse while pressing the scroll wheel. Quick and painless. It also has left/right scroll wheel axis control, but I don't use this feature.
I also grabbed a Lachesis just to add to my mouse collection. It is a very quick, agile mouse. The narrowed center does make it a bit awkward for people with larger hands, but it has been a solid performer otherwise.

good choice! i love my deathadder. how large are your hands though? i have rather long fingers, and my hand does develop a slight cramp after a few hours of playing something intense, no problem in gw.
as for a surface, it really dosnt matter that much, im using something i found at office max for less than ten bucks, it works fine even at the highest DPI and sensitivity settings.
